How Light Panels Enhance Your Meditation Experience

From the moment you walk into the classroom at MINDSET Brain Gym in downtown Toronto, you’re immediately transported to a place beyond your troubles by the pulsing blue lights that fill the room.

“It’s so calming! As soon as I step in there, I’m just like ahh.” says Niki Khalaj, a regular Brain Gym client.

MINDSET Brain Gym first opened its doors nearly a month ago, and the experience is already attracting the attention of the city with their impressive meditation rooms. And it’s no wonder! The main room features hundreds of Light Panels all around, but that’s not all. They also have ultra-comfortable ergonomic seating that promotes comfort and optimal posture, a signature blend of diffused essential oils to enhance focus and relaxation, and soothing soundscapes to wrap you into an all-encompassing meditation experience.

So you might be wondering “why does a meditation space need mood-lighting?” And that’s a great question. You see, the purpose of meditation is to improve your overall mental health by learning how to control your thoughts and bring your mind to a peaceful state at any given time, even when life all around you may seem chaotic. However, the way to train your mind to do that is by practicing in a space that’s the opposite of chaotic.

“If we have the right environment and the right technique, we can find ourselves in the right state of mind and body for us to train our attention” says Chris Aimone, Co-Founder of MUSE, the brain-sensing headband.

“The beautiful thing about having a lighting display is that we can quickly find that place where we can just get right to it and do the work that has to be done.”

That’s why Sean Finnell, co-founder of MINDSET Brain Gym decided he wanted to fill his meditation classes with the Nanoleaf Light Panels.

“When we discovered the Nanoleaf Light Panels, I was blown away with just how captivating they were, and we knew we had to make these the signature element of our meditation room, so we went with a very large installation of the Nanoleaf Light Panels.”

The Light Panels are used as a mood re-setter. Sean and his co-founder decided to go with the color blue because they believed blue is the most calming color in the spectrum. It also emulates water, which is a perfect fit for MINDSET’s earthy theme all throughout the meditation center.

When you step into the classroom at MINDSET Brain Gym, you certainly won’t be leaving the same way you came in. Just stepping into the room puts your mind at peace, but meditating in that room is an entirely different world. Listening to the calming sound of the outdoors, breathing in and out, taking your time to just examine what you’re truly thinking so that you can think about nothing at all. Your eyes are closed, and even then you can still sense a wave of blue lights just pulsating in tune with the pattern of your breathing. You’re calm, relaxed, and for the first time in days, you feel at peace.
