Learn Voice Commands

Because Speaking is Easier than Tapping

No matter how great the design of an app on your phone or computer is, speaking to your home brings an extra touch of convenience and coziness to your surroundings. Modern home automation systems with voice control use Natural Language Processing (NLP), creating a much more intuitive experience. What kind of commands can you use to start out?

Apple Siri Voice Control

Our Smarter Series products are HomeKit-certified for voice control with Siri. There are a number of simple commands you can use to control the lights by bulb, room, or for the whole home.

A note on voice control: power to the fixture must always be on for voice or app control to work. We recommend that you leave your fixtures always powered on, and turn the lights off with your voice or the app. This will avoid the need for the bulbs to search for and rejoin the hub, which has to be done after they lose power.

Basic Commands

Note that room and individual light names are set by you within the Nanoleaf app. This must be done before using voice control, or else Siri won’t really understand what you want her to do.

Turn On Examples

For the whole home: “Hey Siri, turn on my lights.”
For a specific room: “Hey Siri, turn on my bedroom lights.”
For a specific light: “Hey Siri, turn on the bedside table light in my bedroom.”

Turn Off Examples

Note that color-changing commands will only work with color-changing lights. And yes, we do feel a bit silly having to mention that.
