What is Matter?
Matter is a new unifying smart home standard that simplifies how smart devices work together. It helps futureproof your home by ensuring compatibility across all major smart home ecosystems. Essentials Matter products require a Matter-compatible smart home hub and a Thread border router.
How do I control the Lightstrip?
You can control the Lightstrip using the attached controller, the Nanoleaf App, smart home apps such as Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa (coming soon), and Samsung SmartThings, or through voice commands.
What are the benefits of Thread compared to Bluetooth?
While the Lightstrip can be set up over Bluetooth using the Nanoleaf App, Thread is required to fully utilize Matter capabilities and connect to smart home ecosystems. Thread provides improved reliability, faster speeds, fewer dropped connections, increased range, and lower power consumption. It also enables access to the Nanoleaf Desktop App and Screen Mirror feature. Running Matter over Thread allows remote access, voice control, and additional customization features. A Thread border router is required for Thread, and a Matter-compatible smart home hub is required for Matter over Thread.
What do I need to use it?
You need a Matter-compatible smart home hub and a Thread border router to connect the Lightstrip to smart home ecosystems and access full Matter over Thread functionality. Compatibility includes Apple Home (iOS/tvOS 16.5+), Google Home (Android 8.1+; iOS coming soon), Samsung SmartThings (Android 8.1+ or iOS 16.5+), and Amazon Alexa (coming soon). The Lightstrip can also be used over Bluetooth with the Nanoleaf App, but without Matter over Thread benefits.
Can the Lightstrip show multiple colours at once?
No, the Lightstrip is not addressable. It can only display one colour at a time across the entire strip. However, you still have access to 16 million+ colours and dynamic colour Scenes that allow transitions between colours.
How many Lightstrips can I connect together?
You can connect Lightstrips up to a maximum length of 10 metres. Extending beyond 10 metres will reduce overall brightness.
Can I cut them or bend them?
Yes, the Lightstrips can be cut and bent, but you must cut only along the indicated cut marks. Once cut, the strips cannot be reconnected.
