You'll need a Thread-enabled device and a compatible Thread Border Router. For Matter over Thread devices connected to a smart home ecosystem, you'll also need a compatible Matter Controller or smart home hub. In some ecosystems, one device can perform both roles.
Is Thread the same as Matter?
No. Thread is a wireless networking technology that devices can use to communicate, while Matter is a smart home connectivity standard that helps compatible products work across different ecosystems. Matter-enabled products can communicate over Thread or Wi-Fi, depending on the product.
How do I connect a Nanoleaf Matter over Thread device?
For the easiest setup, pair your compatible Nanoleaf device in the Nanoleaf App first. If a compatible Thread Border Router and smart home hub are available, you can then connect the device to a supported smart home ecosystem.
Why is my Nanoleaf device using Bluetooth instead of Thread?
A compatible Thread device may use Bluetooth when it has not joined an available Thread network. Check that your Thread Border Router is online, your devices are up to date, and your Thread network is available.
